The Carpathian Mountains

The Carpathian Mountains are a chain of mountains that stretch from the Czech Republic to Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. The total length of the Carpathians is over 1500km, it's highest range being 8705 feet above sea level. Some of the people speak a rather unheard-of language such as Transcarpathian, while others remain using their respective mother tongues. Temperature ranges from as low as -15 celcius during winter, and 20 celcius in July (summer).

Amongst the many villages alongside, one of them is Slavske. This is the place where we spent our winter hols ^__^

To get to the destination, we had to take a train from Simferopol to Lviv which took us 26 hours HAHA imagine that! All our muscles were cramped and ached galore~

Initially the plan was to go skiing; however Allah had other plans, and so on the day we arrived the snow was starting to melt. So instead of skiing, we hopped on to the 2600m long cable car to get to the top of the mountain which stood 1230m above sea level.

The cable car ride upwards

A cottage that sits on on top of the mountain

The view from above MashaAllah was fantastic! Subhanallah *speechless*

We also had a few horse rides, and built a little snowman ^__^

Sometimes it felt like we were sooo close to the sun! Even two layers of gloves and thick socks weren't enough to counterfeit the frosty coldness.

The ride downwards

After the ride downwards, we strolled along the little bumpy roads and shopped at some souvenir stalls. The folks here were rather friendly and felt enthused to encounter such visitors from as far as Malaysia! Hohoho.

During our stay there we spent three nights at Fayno Cottage. It was a very small yet homey cottage, which not only has Disney Channel, but also a sauna! Pampering your body with the blazing sauna heat after a long cold day is sooo soothing I tell you..yippie!

After three nights spectating the sunrise and sunset between the mountains, we headed back to Lviv and spent a night at the Ukrainian Home Hostel; a very Europe-like hostel that rated highest at http://hostelbookers.com . We had a tour around the city; it reminded me most of Poland due to the similarity of its architecture elements.

The following day it was toodles for Lviv. Thank You Allah for the chance You gave us to explore something so spectacular.

Goodbye everyone! Till we meet again ^__^

2009 End of Year Summary.

Assalamualaikum...

So the first semester of my final years have actually ended (yikes!) and I am in the middle of the winter hols, and am trying to use it to the utmost fruitfullest before classes start. Flakes of snow has just started dribbling all over Crimea with a mean temperature of -5 celcius; hence the polar-hibernating-mode of most students.

Okay, this isn't actually in Crimea. This is somewhere on top of the Carpathian Mountains. InshaAllah details will be in the next post.

To begin with (actually, I don't know how to begin with..the hiatus has been so long!) I'll start by showing you some of this year's Eid's pictures. This year's event was rather simple, as only two batches of Malaysian students were left. Nonetheless, it also bridged the gap between all Muslim students worldwide.

Awk, newly-weds Iqbal-Sakiey and me

We also spent a night at the ambassador's (her cooking's are awesome! Taraf 5-star hotel gitu) and went to Auntie Rose's open-house. And yes, filled our little tummies to the max.

Some weeks later we spent the end of autumn by hiking up Red Cave and had a wee picnic nearby the waterfalls over there. And well wadya know - they have camels here in Ukraine! Hahaha.

2009 also marked a gloomy day for us Othman's too. For our beloved Maklang passed away after 2 years suffering IV stage of Colon Cancer. What made me shed tears the most was that she also made my hantaran decorations beforehand - "takut tak sempat nak buat nanti" katanya. Huhu. May Allah bless you among the mu'mineen my dearest Maklang. We will always miss you. And thank you so much for beautifying the house galore on my engagement day ;) .

Beloved Arwah Maklang & Me on the day I got engaged

Okay..so there you go with part I.

1st of November, 2009.

The whole of CSMU was startled with a shocking news. 3 weeks of quarantine holiday has been imposed to all public authorities and educational institutions nationwide. 3 weeks?! Uhuhuh. After the announcement, I stared at the wall, blank for like, almost an hour. Called mum, she insisted I fly back home (abah sponsor ticket! hehe). And so that was how the next events took place.

At first there was the 'Sirih Pulang ke Gagang' SMAPK Alumni Reunion - calling all ex-students from the very first to the latest batch. What made me a wee bit sad was that me and Mokcique were the only girls of my batch that came up (where were all the other kids?). To think that I had just arrived from Ukraine the night before, after nearly 13 hours of flight and two transits, and yet I still urged myself to come - ah, you do the calculation. Good thing I got to meet a lot of my teachers - they really did make my day, alhamdulillah ;)

Ah, yes. My first Raya at home, at my kampung, at long last (walaupun raye haji je)! After 6 very long years whoa. And to make things more momentous, it may be the last of me as a single lady (T_____T but hehehehehe :D)

Anisa, me and Ariff

Jolok rambutan! ngenge~

Nyummie nyummie nyum nyum!

Next comes the best part of all. Abah gave a green light to let me and mama visit Hani at Bandung! Yippie yeayeayeay~. We spent three nights at the Horizon Hotel, and spent one whole day shopping at Pasar Baru and the designer's outlets. The best thing was that I got to buy myself a burkhini - sangat murah okay di sini! Huahuahua~

Tengok-tengok kain

Me and Hani in front of her hostel

Mama and me <3

Oh yes and I am sooo into the Nasi Padang here..finger-licking good! Low in triglycerides too ^__^

So there goes my 3 weeks of so-called H1N1 hols. Spent it to the fullest, I believe!

Part II

Arrived Ukraine safely, alhamdulillah. To replace the missed classes, we had to attend them on saturdays. Not bad after all. But they did not erase winter hols from the calendar. Hence we had a week of winter hols, and so one day me and my friends thought of having a one-day trip to Dnipropetrovsky, a quite modern city that sits halfway between Kiev and Simferopol. It was rather tiring because we walked all day long soaked wet and cold after a 9-hours train-ride. Therefore not much pictures could be appreciated. On the other hand, it was the first time we celebrated New Year's eve in the train. It even stopped at the strike of 12, all lights went off, and from afar we could see fireworks coloring the midnight sky! Subhanallah, it was spectacular I tell you. Alhamdulillah ^___^

Something heartrending did come up before the end of 2009, I must say. Our beloved Ustaz, Dr. Sheikh A'lauddin, a Palestinian, passed away due to Chron's Disease. He was the 'ustaz' of my usrah, and he also used to give 'kuliyyah Jumaat' talks every friday evening. Dr. A'la was also a 'tahfeez', an imaam, and his Quranic recitations were sooo lovely MashaAllah. Recently he was rather preoccupied with his specialization in Cardiology, so we didn't really get to see much of Ustaz during his last days. Ustaz did leave a gem of his own; a 3 months old fetus in his wife's womb ;)

Alhamdulillah, I have no regets of 2009. Looking forward to a better 2010 and 1431 Hijriah, (and a better looking figure too hahaha :P) inshaAllah. Happy New Year everyone! ^__^

Busy as a beaver!

Salam

Goodness, sorry people! Apologies for the verryyy BIG _______________________ gap. So much has been happening past the three months, and frankly speaking things have been rather hectic! Busy bee has indeed bitten the best out of me hoho. To cut things short, I have just arrived from home after a month's vacation due to the H1N1 quarantine imposed upon Ukraine which had all public authorities and educational institutions closed for three weeks. And now we're back on track!

Most readers (eceh macam banyak je) insisted upon a new post. Some even thought that this blog has found its D-day! Haha mane bole God Willing I want my kids to see the river that I have been cruising all along. Well as the Malay saying goes; tak menang tanganla! But insyaAllah the author will try to put up her utmost effort to fill in this verryyy BIG gap _____________ once the New Year Hols begin.

A sneak peek at what has been going around:

Till then, toodles! ;)

The Incredible Hunt

Alhamdulillah, I have landed my feet on the grounds of Ukraine. Ramadhan is leaving us day by day, and in a weeks time, the whole world will be celebrating Eid Mubarak , insyaAllah. We have also come to the last 10 days of this holy month, where all Muslims would be in a hunt for the grand night of Lailatul-Qadr.

Narrated Abu Salama bin ‘Abdur-Rahman:

I asked Abu Said Al-Khudri, “Did you hear Allah’s Apostle talking about the Night of Qadr?” He replied in the affirmative and said, “Once we were in Itikaf with Allah’s Apostle in the middle ten days of (Ramadan) and we came out of it in the morning of the twentieth, and Allah’s Apostle- delivered a sermon on the 20th (of Ramadan) and said, ‘I was informed (of the date) of the Night of Qadr (in my dream) but had forgotten it. So, look for it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. I saw myself prostrating in mud and water on that night (as a sign of the Night of Qadr). So, whoever had been in Itikaf with Allah’s Apostle should return for it.’ The people returned to the mosque (for Itikaf). There was no trace of clouds in the sky. But all of a sudden a cloud came and it rained. Then the prayer was established (they stood for the prayer) and Allah’s Apostle prostrated in mud and water and I saw mud over the forehead and the nose of the Prophet.

Retiring to a Mosque for the Remembrance of Allah. Book 3. Volume 33. Hadith 252

May we become one of the guests of this night, insyaAllah.

ps: am missing mummy's cookings! Huhuhu~

"You are most likely to die on..."

Assalamualaikum

If you’re one of the constant, keen users of the world wide web, you’re most likely to notice the big immigration of users from friendster to facebook. My friendster account, for an instant, has been having cobwebs dangling for like, say, nearly a year. And the number of friends that I have in facebook has sky-rocketed over the sum of 800.

Come to ponder upon the thought, both act as social utilities that connect people around the globe, virtually. We could send comments/write on the ‘walls’, give messages, upload and share pictures, post shout-outs and statuses etc. Hence, why the big gap?

The upper edge that facebook has over friendster is its ‘power of notification’. Making announcements. Telling all your friends that you have commented on his status, and that someone has ‘liked’ your photo. That someone has also commented on a picture of your friend that you commented. Tagging pictures – a game that implicitly in a way increases the number of ‘photos of you’ that you have on facebook. Thereby, no more tedious uploading is needed. Leave it to those who have nothing to do. And uploading is way easier and twice faster.

To add to that, you could also instantly send photos to your account via mobile. And tag them at once. Next, hey presto! All you know is that a bunch of people are already conversing over the phenomenon (this happened to me in real life on the day of my neighbour’s solemnization. I was sitting beside an aunt of hers who had Blackberry; she took pictures of her niece, sent them to facebook and tagged them there and then. I figure it took only 10 seconds more or less).

Via facebook, you could send your friend some 'duit raya' and get a piece of Secret Recipe's Yogurt Strawberry Cheesecake for an exchange. And get yourself a Swatch! Hahaha.

Next comes the addictive games that they have. Most guys would be recruiting their members to join their family on Mafia Wars, and the girls would try gain points for fame in Sorority Life. Others may just be harvesting cucumbers to collect as much coins in Barn Buddies, and the prudent ones would ‘Scrabble’ world-widely as much as they could.

Rest assured if you find yourself guilty, you could always join this group : I hate Facebook because it stops me from doing my homework!!!

Still, the boon is there. You could simply announce your wedding and invite guests effortlessly (though I’d prefer snail-mail/cards). Ask people to join a cause/campaign. Write a suicidal note (just to gain attention) or a wedding registry.

And don’t forget the myriad quizzes that people make, to an extent that you could even ‘know the way how you die’ - duhh!!!

Ps: This is somewhat a ‘reply’ on Jamil’s latest post. I, too, am one of the victims hypnotized by facebook!

Food? Think Twice.

Assalamualaikum

Yes, the girl is back. For approximately two months, insyaAllah. Ah nothing spells like home than a jolly good proper dinner (yes I haven't had a really proper one for some three/four weeks, thanks to the mind-goggling adrenaline-pumping caffeine-stipulating five exam papers) and non-stop tv series plus movies oooww yes.

It sure does feel good to be home.

At this time of the moment, the thoughts of pursuing my second degree abroad, once being my aim and dream, is no longer that vivid. Or apparent. Whatever.

However, it saddens me though to grasp the irrefutable truth that I have been putting some weight past this one month. Ohoho. Why, how couldn't I, for those spooky exams make evening jogs seem sooo at fault. And then mum wants me to see the tailor to measure the ups and downs for the upcoming events, raya etc. So you could see clearly how a little part of me is a wee bit under strain.

Ah, never mind. Malaysia spells food, hence let us hunt for it to the max! :P

This two months would be pretty hectic.

1. I have approximately ten wedding invitations that need attending
2. Five weeks of practicals at Kajang Hospital
3. Black-belt Taekwondo Grading (don't think this could squeeze in with abahs' frequent irregular outstations)
4. Slash down those extra kilos'! With whatever modus operandi applicable
5. Wedding preparations [mak andam + warna baju + photographer] aiyoyooo
6. Diet
7. Exercise
8. Dah dah..stop stop (nampak sangat pressure)

heeeeee =D

On the other hand, if anyone has any recommendations regarding mak andams, photographers, wedding gowns etc, feel free to leave a comment. I'd highly appreciate it. Thanks! ;)

Sebelum Akad Terpatri...

Salam. Got this from iluvislam.com. May it benefit us all insyaAllah ;)

Tinta Buat Bakal Suamiku

Assalammualaikum wrt wbt.

Buatmu,

Bakal suamiku.

Aku menutup pintu hatiku daripada mana-mana lelaki kerana aku tidak mahu membelakangimu. Aku menghalang diriku dari mengenali mana-mana lelaki kerana aku tidak mahu mengenali lelaki lain selainmu, apatah lagi memahami mereka. Kerana itulah aku sedaya kudrat yang lemah ini membatasi pergaulanku dengan bukan mahramku. Aku sering sahaja berasa tidak selamat diperhatikan lelaki. Bukanlah aku menyangka buruk terhadap mereka, tetapi lebih baik aku berjaga-jaga kerana contoh banyak di depan mata. Apabila terpaksa berurusan dengan mereka, akan aku buat ‘expressionles face’ dan ‘cool’. Akan aku palingkan wajahku daripada lelaki yang asyik merenungku ataupun cuba menegurku. Aku seboleh-bolehnya melarikan pandanganku daripada ajnabi kerana pesan Sayyidatina ‘Aisyah R.A ;

Dariku,

Bakal isterimu

Semakin lama, semakin sayang, semakin rindu.

Salam.

Yesterday I had a very weird dream. Mum and dad were smooching in front of us ala-ala Gossip Girl's Blair and Chuck!! Hoho serious takkan buat sedemikian rupa depan anak-anak nanti (takut derang terus pengsan tengok parents sendiri aahaha :P).

As the title speaks for itself, what else, if not, for the pre-exam homesickness.

Eh yang nie tak......takk!!! Heeeeeee :P :P

25 days left for Malaysia!! InsyaAllah ^__^

(and 8 days left for the finals T__T)

Doakan saya!! ;)

Cikgu?

Salam...

On top of the list, of course, is my mum and dad.

(am I attempting to make a non-formal PMR letter? apekah~)

And of course this dedication goes to the best english debate teachers the world has yet to acknowledge - Madam Khairul Husna and Madam Zuraidah. You guys are such a sport!

HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY! ^__^

I have two weeks to cross out before the D-day of the finals appear. Uhuhuh

And yes, I am feeling a wee bit stressed out. Read: PEER PRESSURE.

It has nothing to do with the competitive edge. Seriously. I could cope with that one.

But what bores me much is the none other 'ko-ni-takde-keje-laen-mengumpat-ke' chitchats of those - say, uncivilized homosapiens?

Takde keje lain ke haa?

InsyaAllah this coming summer, 5 pairs of my batch will get hitched. And yes, I meant FIVE pairs of MY batch.

Alhamdulillah, I feel so thankful for them. Who does not?

However, it hurts so much when people bombard you with questions such as "ko nie da tunang takmo kawen ke?" "tahan ke tunang lame-lame?" "siannye, da tunang tapi org laen kawen dulu"

.......HELLO!!!!!

Dia Maha Tahu.

Dua-tiga hari lately saya kurang sihat. Tunang buatkan seperiuk bubur ayam (rasenye baru 2nd time die buat bubur) dengan penuh kasih sayang. Alhamdulillah ;)

(tp dlm gmbr xnmpk sgtla plak aymnye..)

Sama-sama kita sabar ye awk!!

Ameeenn... ;)

I love you heaps, and will always do...

Would do anything insyaAllah, even if it the best things in the world need to be sacrificed...

Tak sabar nak balik!!!

Syndrome NABAKA

Assalamualaikum...

I think the syndrome is 'exacerbating', again.

aaaAAAaaaAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaa (baca ala-ala tarzan lagi skalik)

On the other hand, I have difficulty uploading videos to the blog. Any ideas why this is happening?

Am wishing to share some video clips I adore.

left: momo; right: mimi (tiada kaitan dgn cik aimi rahman :P) they came into the family past a week after woman's day. Became my sleeping companion together with koko ( panda teddy bear yang agak besar untuk dimuatkan dalam gambar). As weird as it sounds, I'd feel odd waking up in the morning without them beside my pillow.

As Free As Could Be

Assalamualaikum...

Within a month's time, I'd be in a state of 'white-dermographism dominant', palpitating, answering questions of the final state exam.

aaaaAAAaaaAAAaaaaa!!! (baca gaya ala-ala tarzan)

Nonetheless, it implicitly signifies of how time flies fast, and that in two months time, I'd be sniffing the fresh air of Bandar Baru Bangi once again, sipping teh-tarik at mamak stalls and dipping roti canai in kuah dal. *drooling* InsyaAllah.

*grinning wide*

...oh, and also the fact that I have yet a year to digest and comprehend all 'medico-logies'. Uhuhuh.

So what is all the fuss about being free?

I am now free from holding any posts in the KUU Board (Persatuan Pelajar Melayu Ukraine); Ketua Puteri, to be exact.

It is as if I could finally shrug off a big burden that has been hunchbacking me all along.

It also emblems more quality time with those around me and close at heart. My oh my, I do miss those precious moments.

Come to think about it, the word housemanship already sends shivers down my spine. It haunts me so much, I dare not try to foresee myself being in any of the HO's shoes I'd once seen during the previous practical postings at Serdang Hospital.

A senior of mine cum wife to a house officer, often wails out her sincere feelings of how lonely the atmosphere becomes when on-calls predominates her hubby's daily schedule. Bukan setakat deringan telefon, sms pun susah nak balas. Truth be said, this, I fear pretty badly.

Couldn't the life of a HO get any gloomier? *read this to understand more*

Practiced making sushi with my roommates. Don't think such chances would appear once the critical period ticks on *sigh*

ps: My mum doesn't read my blog, but it's her birthday anyway, so a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out for you mama! And Happy Wedding Anniversary too. Akak berbangga menjadi anak bunting pelamin kekeke :P Jangan sedih-sedih sebab abah terpaksa outsation ^__^.

Sabar Sarah...

Salam

It hurts to know that some people just couldn't appreciate all the work you've done. They believe that everyone is perfect - of course not! These people may be just a minority, and I couldn't care less to know who they are. Well, whoever it is, if you think you're good enough, go get a grip and try walk in my shoes.

I have been silent from the blogosphere for nearly two months, and yes, I have been pretty busy lately. Some big events are coming around, me becoming one of the important committee members. Sometimes you think that the workload is too much and stressful - but at some moments, you just feel thankful that these stuff are restraining you from thinking about the unnecessary (you know what I mean).

Sometimes, I feel that I have transformed into a new me - a 'me' that couldn't tackle tight schedules. Had it been in SMAPK, I wouldn't be fussing this much! Why oh why?

I do agree that at some point, SMAPK taught me how to juggle my priorities right, how to manage time with care. I think I fear this new me. Uhuhu~

Nonetheless, I am trying to fulfill each and every second as good as I could. I am attending Oriental Dance classes currently, twice a week, and taekwondo classes weekly. The other days would do with a jog in the park.

Ah, been trying out new recipes too. On weekends-lah. Hey, it's crucial what ;)

Okie dokie. Opthalmology notes coming up. Cataract oo cataract.

ps: am envying Hani who's currently at home for a short break

pps: The univ should have it's own 'girls-only' pool. Mana aci lelaki je dapat swim! Nak swimming jugak!! :P

ppps: credits to Dayah for these lovely 'digital-badges-whatever-you-call-them'. Got them from her blog. Hehe
